December is always the busiest time of the year, but even before the new year starts I want to try something new. So this is an additional series in this blog, but I'm not yet sure if I'll do this weekly. But it's definitely something that I'll do to catch up with my readers and to also share some of the things I enjoyed reading.
- Pop Reviews Now's Best of 2013 - Nikki has been doing the list for the past 6 years, and it's one of the things I look forward to every year. It's a list of her 50 favorite songs from Korean artists released in the said year. It's currently on-going, and it's definitely a great way to discover new and old songs! :)
- The Talking Cupboard's Korean Family and Kinship Terms - If you're confused with all the Hangul terms used in calling family members, this is a pretty good guide. It also discusses some important points in addressing relatives.
- Outside Seoul's For the birds: The quietly feminist leanings of Korean dramas - A very interesting piece on how patriarchal Korea promotes feminism in Korean dramas. I thoroughly enjoy it, and it also eloquently puts into words why I'm such a fan of Kdramas and Kculture.
- Seoul Beats's A Quick Guide To Being Part Of The K-Pop Fandom - Joining a KPOP fandom is quite intimidating and scary, and thus, most new fans would rather stay away from the politics of it all. This is a pretty thoughtful article on understanding how fandoms (with emphasis on its plurarity) work and how to prepare yourself from the intense emotions derived from it.
- Shikidrama's [Kdrama] ‘Reply 1994′ episode 5-10 ~ opinion ~ - It's difficult not to discuss the love lines in Reply 1994, and this one is a pretty good article on why Chilbong can be the husband. Heehee.
- [TRANS] The Celebrity December Issue – TVXQ! 10th Anniversary Special - Yay! They pretty much translated an entire magazine. DAEBAK!
- Dramabean's 2013 Beanie Awards - Not an article, but it's finally time to vote for your favorite dramas this year! Woot. Can't wait for the results~
As a consumer of anything Asian, I delight in reading feature articles that look deeper into it. They say that one shouldn't read too much into a drama and just watch for enjoyment's sake. But there's also the fun in analyzing it and looking past the obvious.
My list mostly composes of articles relating to Korean pop culture, and hopefully in the next Thursday Readings I can include more articles about other pop cultures. :)
